WorldMozaic - Intel Soon to Discontinue Skylake Processors
Waiting to launch Intel's new processor, Core i 8th Gen. for desktop which will use the Coffee Lake architecture, Intel will stop the production of their legacy processors from two generations before the new one is born.
This means that Intel will no longer producing Core i 6th Gen processors, which uses the Skylake architecture.
Intel had released a direct replacement of the Core i 6th Gen, the Core i 7th Gen, early 2017. However, that does not mean they immediately stop the production of processor lines.
When releasing Kaby Lake (7th Gen), Intel only stopped the production of Broadwell processors. Skylake is still produced with a limited amount. Only when the Core i 8th Gen is released, Skylake will be discontinued from production.
Although Skylake is discontinued, the Core i 6th Gen processor will not simply go away. Intel mentioned that the processor can still be purchased, or ordered, because they still have a stock of processors.
In fact, the Core i 6th Gen. is said still available in the market for at least up to one year ahead.
Due to the cessation of the 6th Gen production, it shows that Intel will actually release Core i 8th Gen. for desktop PCs in the near future.
