Tears are not always synonymous with sadness, though most of the causes of tears are due to crying. The function of the tears themselves is actually to moisturize the eyes, and prevent infection and maintain our eyes health.



Humans are not the only creatures that can shed tears, because in fact, animals also tears. Here are 7 things you need to know about tears:

1.The composition of tears.
The composition of the tears is said to be similar to saliva. There are proteins, salts, and hormones. But physically they look different and so does the taste and smell. Very unique, huh?

2. Women tears more often than men.
This is because women cry more often than men. On average women cries 5 times in a month, whereas men only 1 or 2 times only. Women also cries longer than men do.


3. Women's tear glands are larger.
The tear glands in women's eyes are larger, so it is biologically different from men.

4. Nasal mucus also flow when crying?
When crying most snot also flows through the nose. This is actually an overgrowth of the tear glands that overproduce when crying, and flows into the nostrils. So it's not snot, but isactually tears as well.

5. When slicing onions?
There are chemicals in the onion that evaporate and expose to the eye glands, thus making the lacrimal glands to produce tears. This is what causes many people to shed tears when slicing onions.

6. Crocodiles also cry.
Tears of crocodiles are usually identified with mock tears. However in fact, crocodiles are  actually able to produce tears. The function of tears on crocodiles is to maintain the healthy eyes.

7. It can affect others.
When someone sees others crying, then it can affect their mental state as well. For men who see women crying, their testosterone levels will decrease, according to a study. That's what makes them resent when a woman cries.
