WorldMozaic - Two Rohingya Refugees Died Stepped on by Elephants

Two Rohingya refugees died tragically because a wild elephant stepped on them. The two old Rohingya refugees were killed as they fell asleep under a plastic sheet near the Bangladesh forest, police said on Monday (18/09/2017) local time.

The incident took place on the outskirts of the Kutupalong refugee camp in Coxs Bazar District, where tens of thousands of Rohingyas have set up emergency shelters since fleeing violence across Myanmar's border.

"We can confirm that two people have been killed by wild elephant attacks," local police chief Abul Khaer told, adding that the victims were Rohingya civilians.

More than 410,000 Rohingyas have arrived in Bangladesh since the outbreak of new violence on August 25 in Myanmar's westernmost state of Rakhine.

Most of the newly arrived refugees camp out in the open or on the sidewalk, where they stormed food aid trucks and other much-needed supplies.

Rohingya leader Kamal Hossain said the two refugees killed by the elephant were newcomers, who camped in a forest area near Kutupalong camp.
