WorldMozaic - 7 Children Arrested Related to Fire in Malaysia

Malaysian police arrested seven children related to a fire at a moslem boarding school in Malaysia that left 21 students and teachers dead.

The detained children are between 11 and 18 years old, police said on Saturday (16/09/2017).

The worst-known fire in Malaysia over the past two decades, occurred on Thursday morning (9/14/2017) in Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah, in Kuala Lumpur.

Victims are thought to be trapped inside the lodge and have a hard time escaping because the window is equipped with a trellis made of metal.

The fire started on Thursday (14/09) morning at 05.40 local time.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh said in a press statement Saturday (16/9/2017) that before the fire there was a dispute between a number of male students and the suspects. The suspects then lit a fire on the top floor of the lodge using a gas cylinder.

He added they could be charged with murder, but he told reporters that the children's intention was just to burn, but it was because of their age or because of their maturity, maybe they did not know that it would cause death.

The suspects are in custody for the next seven days.
