WorldMozaic - The First Meeting of the Egyptian President and Israel Prime Minister.

For the first time, Egyptian President Abdul Fattah as Sisi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meet in public, which according to the Cairo government is part of a Middle East peace effort.

The Egyptian government in a written statement said the two met on Monday, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Separately, Sisi also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at his residence, where they agreed to continue efforts towards a two-state solution.

The meeting comes just two days after Egypt convinced the Hamas group in Palestine to dissolve the government, which rules the Gaza Strip. Hamas is also willing to hold talks with their Palestinian political rival Fatah.

Over the past 10 years, Egypt has joined Israel in enforcing the isolation of land, air and sea routes into the Gaza Strip, as part of its efforts to punish Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since the Palestinian war in 2007.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu in recent weeks said that Israel's relations with its neighbors are getting better and affirming cooperative relationships "in some way at different levels".

Egypt is also one of the few Arab countries to first recognize Israel as a state in the 1979 peace agreement, which was then sponsored by the United States.

On the other hand, Egypt is also still often criticize Israel's policy of continuing to seize land that will become part of the future territory of the Palestinian state.
