There are several things we need to consider when reaching the age of 40s. Among them are:

1. Food

The body's metabolism at the age of 40s is slowing down, therefore the amount and type of food should be modified according to our age. The amount is reduced by half of the portion we normally eat. We should eat more high-fiber, vegetables, fruits and protein foods. HoweverUnless those with kidney disorders can reduce the protein.

Avoid simple carbohydrate foods. We need to be able to  distinguish simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates. Example of simple carbohydrates are white bread, rice, cassava, potatoes and so on. Example of complex carbohydrates are oatmeal, and various kind of fruits.

Why is complex carbo much better? because the digestive tract takes a longer time to process complex carbohydrates into energy. Therefore we will feel full longer than if consuming simple carbo, and thus eat less.

2. Avoid stress

Why should we avoid stress? Stress triggers the release of substances that mediate inflammatory processes that worsen the condition of our body. Especially when our body is trying to minimize the stimulus from external, such as radiation, foreign objects and so forth.

The attempt to neutralize the body will be very disturbed by the emergence of substances causes by the stress. Some diseases will be exacerbated by stress, such as hypertension, heart disease or cancer.

How to avoid stress? Best way is to practice emotional control. Controlled emotions will be more tolerant to stress.

3. Regular exercise

Exercise does not only prolong our life, but also improves quality of life. With regular exercise, the organs inside our body will be trained and not easy to break.

However, exercise shall not be excessive and it needs to be adjusted to our physical condition. Excessive exercise will have  negative impact, especially for the heart and kidneys.

4. Medical check up

Do medical check ups regularly, at least once a year. Do a routine check for blood, urine, ectrocardiogram (ECG), pap smear, liver function test, kidney function test, lung respirometry and so on. With regular medical check ups, we can be more aware of things that can worsen our condition in the future.

Those are some tips we can do in maintaining health conditions at the age of 40 years.
